It’s the midway point of the 2024-25 school ball season in the Peach State and teams are getting geared up for region play and separation heading into the stretch run. Today, we take a deep look into some of the top girl teams in the Middle Georgia area.

GHSA 3A #1  Baldwin
(7-3 overall)

Reigning GHSA class 4A State Champion Baldwin has moved down to class 3A due to realignment and currently holds the top spot in the state rankings. Frontcourt seniors JaNaye Walker (2023 Ms. Middle Georgia) and Georgia Southwestern signee, Kassidy Neal, lead the way. Walker averages 15.7 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 2.5 assists per game while Neal turns in a team leading 18.8 points per game. She also adds 7.8 rebounds, 2.7 steals, and 3.2 assists per contest.

Sophomore duo Suri Clark (8.6ppg, 5.8rpg) and Zuri Grant (6ppg, 2apg) have been impressive in new roles and will be key components in the Bravettes quest for back-to-back state titles.

GHSA 4A #5 Warner Robins
(12-0 overall)

Warner Robins has been one of the most consistent teams in Georgia over the past couple years. In 2022-23, the Demonettes made it all the way to the class 5A state championship game and are in prime position to make a return trip this season.

This year’s team does it damage by committee, but sophomore standout Trinitee Thomas is the clear leader. She is averaging 17.5 points, 8 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 2.8 assists per game and holds a handful of Division-I offers from programs like Mercer, South Alabama, and UNC Charlotte to name a few.

The Demonettes ended 2024 with a Pre-Holiday & Holiday Tournament (Orlando, Florida) Pink Bracket Championship and have some serious momentum going into the second half of the season. Expect to see them playing come late February, early March.

GHSA A-DI #1 Central-Macon
(10-3 overall)

Coming off the first Final 4 appearance in school history, Central-Macon has its eye on the big prize. The Lady Chargers are number one in the single-A Division-I Public classification and have a real opportunity to make a state title run with private schools moving to their own postseason tournament.

Central is led by NCAA DI signees Jazlyn Johnson and Frances Anyakudo who both inked with SWAC member Alcorn State University in November. Johnson is contributing 15.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game while Anyakudo averages a double-double scoring 10.6 points and grabbing 10.9 rebounds a game. Fellow senior JiKaylee Marshall chips in 7.5 points off the bench and is a reliable floor stretcher.

Sophomore trio Lawren Anderson (5.2ppg, 1.8spg), Kacie Reeves (4.9ppg, 2.4apg), and Selena Grier (3ppg, 8.8rpg) are also glue pieces that play pivotal roles within coach Bolston-Williams’ system.

GHSA 4A #8 Jones County
(12-1 overall)

First year Head Coach Takeo Gray has the Lady Hounds off to one of the best starts in program history. Senior Mya Anderson earned an offer from the University of Fort Lauderdale following a big performance at the Hypesouth Hardwood Invitational. She’s throwing in a team high 14.6 points, pulling down 5.4 boards, dishing out 3.1 assists, and collecting 2.8 steals a game.

Kamiyah Adams is adding 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Aubrey Norris contributes 8.2 points, 4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.8 steals and Autumn Coleman gives Jones County 8.5 points a night.

This squad is arguably the deepest team in the mid-state top to bottom, so don’t be surprised to see it make some noise late in the season.

GHSA A-DI #5 Lamar County
(10-3 overall)

Lamar County is holding steady in the middle of the pack in the A-DI Public class at the midway point. Freshman JaZiyah Foster and sophomore Makayla Watts are the top two scorers averaging 16.3 and 12.2 points respectively. Ella Bleu Leverette compliments them with 7.7 points and 7 rebounds a game.

GHSA A-DI #6 Washington County
(9-3 overall)

WACO is a scrappy bunch that will be a force to be reckoned with in the postseason. Simply put, the Lady Hawks go as sophomores Aeria Hagans (11.9ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.3spg) and Jade Kitchens (11.3ppg, 5.7rpg, 4.2apg, 2.5spg) go. Senior Makayla Dunn (9.4ppg, 3.8rpg) is also an important contributor.

GHSA A-DI #7 Putnam County
(9-3 overall)

Journey Waller does it all for Putnam. She turns in 12.4 points, 4.1 assists, and 4.4 steals per game. The Lady Eagles ended December with 3 straight wins and will continue to be a tough out as the season moves forward.

GHSA A-DII #1 Wilcox County
(7-1 overall)

Wilcox returns the bulk of its team from last year’s Elite 8 squad that played eventual state champion Greenforest as hard as anyone. If everyone is healthy, the Lady Patriots will be the favorites in the A-DII Public division.

GHSA A-DII #2 Taylor County
(9-0 overall)

Taylor County has been to back-to-back single-A Final 4’s and has a fair chance to finally get over the hump given the Georgia High School Association’s decision to separate private schools during the postseason.

The Lady Vikings will ride the backs of Jaydah Ford and Alasia Montgomery on its state title journey.
